New Literacies and Global Learning Creative Synthesis
Abstract |
During my Graduate School studies at North Carolina State University, I wanted to try and focus on an area in literacy that I could connect to as an Itinerant Teacher. I began this journey as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Itinerant Teacher and I am finishing this journey as a Preschool Itinerant Teacher. Engagement, multi-modal instructional approaches are a key factor in how I work with my students when I have such a short amount of time with them. Concluding my two years at NC State in the graduate program, has shown me a great deal of how as a teacher I can help my students be more engaging, and how as a teacher I can use a multi-modal instructional approach to help elicit more deep learning (even of preschoolers!). The findings that I have garnered from a variety of projects and from reading various journals and articles has helped me to know that using a multi-modal approach can help to engage the students more. I have also learned that it also helps to engage the teacher more in learning new and fun ways of getting students to show what they have learned.
